I have done the NeSCAF in SMT. I designed a double-sided board and had a prototype run done by Express PCB. The circuit is almost identical to the thru-hole version, except no 9 volt regulator.
On one side of the board I have the 555 clock generator, and the SCAF chip. On the other side, I have the LM386 amp, and an LED/PLL CW zero-beat tuning indicator.
The board measures about 1 1/4 inches by 1 7/8 inches, but could be made a bit smaller with some work.
It has not been decided if the Club will offer this as a kit yet. If I get some time this weekend, I'll post some pictures of the prototype board in the Gallery.
