Need help with NE 30m transceiver

I have a 30m North East QRP Club transceiver that quit working. I had it looked at by a kit builder that I know, but he was unable to determine why it was not operating. He believes that one of the IC's has failed, but he had no way to test it. Would anyone be interested in attempting to revive this radio for me?

If you are interested please let me know what monetary compensation you would need, and the address to which you would want me to send it.

I'm not aware of any transceiver kitted by the New England QRP Club. Is the board marked with information? Are you sure it's not something from Small Wonder Labs or KD1JV?

NE 3040 Transceiver

Steve has an NE 3040 transceiver- the sister of the Club's first kit, the NE4040, designed by Dave Benson. This was the predecessor to the SWL series of radios from Small Wonder Labs. He will be sending it to me for troubleshooting. I'll report back here on the outcome. I have no idea how many NE3040s are still in existence. I'm pretty sure it's fairly rare, though! 72/73, Bruce, N1RX

Thanks for posting that, Chris. That's a very nice home-brew version that PA2OHH did. Nice write up, and nice schematics of his version. I've got the book also, though Steve is sending along the manual and schematic with the rig. I should have it in a few days. 72/73,Bruce, N1RX

NE 3040 repair

I received Steve's NE3040 yesterday for repair. The output transistor (2N3553) was open- replaced with a 2SC799 and added a heatsink. Re-aligned the rig, set the output to 1.5W and it seems to be working well. It's on it's way back to him now. It was fun to get to poke around on one of these "classics". 72/73, Bruce, N1RX

NESCAF enclosures

Wondering if anyone has recommendations for a specific project box that fits the NESCAF just right, including pots and connectors on the panels?  I do have one BUD style box onhand, but it's a bit oversized for this project.

NE3040

For those interested in doing either the NE4040 or NE3040.

Far Circuits has the single PCB single sided without silkscreening.

I built the NE4040 and have the info at

It was fun to go back in time and build something that is over

16 years old.  The PCB matches the QST article schematic.  Dave Benson's work lives on.
