Three Hundred Zeroes

I’m posting something similar on several other Yahoo groups, but I promise, I’ll only post it here this once:

Even though I have been a member of NEQRP for years, I don’t attend many of the events since I’m way down here in Florida. I do have the good fortune of hooking up with members on the air occasionally, K1LGQ being the most often heard. I also love to go out onto trails with a QRP radio and hike for long periods. I set out to do the entire Appalachian Trail in one year. I wanted to carry a rig for at least 80 and 40 M so I could check into the NEQRP net. As it turned out, I never succeeded to do so. Is someone still managing the net?

Some number of you may have seen my article in the March, 2010 QST, about the hike?

There has been considerable fan mail following the article. One comment that kept coming up was, “The article was too short, I would have loved to have read more about it.” Have I got a solution for you! I’ve recently released a book about my adventure on the A.T.

I’ve just finished a book about the hike. The title is THREE HUNDRED ZEROES. I believe this 328-page book, with 39 photographs, tells a humorous adventure story that captures what it is like to hike that trail for six months with a QRP radio. I figured, how hard could it be to carry a small radio and get on the air, using CW, in all 14 states the trail traverses? It turned out to be more difficult than I imagined.

The book has just enough ham radio in it to make the story interesting without boring non-ham readers. My hope is that it will pique the interest of more people to investigate what a wonderful avocation we have with amateur radio. It was ranked at 8005 on amazon.com a few days ago, out of 3.5 million book selections, I don't think that is too bad for a ham radio themed book.

For more information about the book, check out the:

THREE HUNDRED ZEROES website

or my blog at Three Hundred Zeroes Blog .

Please do visit the sites; I’d love to have you leave a comment on the blog.

The book site does have an email address of: dennis@threehundredzeroes.com and that can be used for correspondence as well. Of course my ham friends are welcome to email me at k1ypp@arrl.net

The book can be ordered directly at this secure publishers website:
https://www.createspace.com/3428889

If you prefer to use an Amazon.com account, it can be ordered there as well.

If you do read the book, I would love to hear your comments. I know K1LGQ has a copy, I’m anxious to hear what he thinks. I really do want to know if you enjoyed the book or found it useful. You might consider sharing your thoughts with other readers on the blog.
