The results are in and Arn, K0ZK, is atop the listing for the 2010 QRP Afield. Conditions may not have been great, but they were a lot better than 2009! Congratulations to all who participated.

Better than nothing
While I was afield during the day, the focus was not on radio. Back home, I went to the shack a couple of times during the afternoon/evening to check on 20 and 40. I was pleased to work one op with a NEQRP number: W1PNS operating portable in NH. My other QSOs were in the South. All on 20m. Heard one station who didn't hear me. Never heard anyone "AF" on 40 or 15, but spent less than an hour operating.

Solar Power AFIELD
QRP AFIELD -- I was a little late getting started but I did manage to snag about 10 QSOs. Forty meters was DEAD and all my activity was on 20 meters. I was battery powered with a 7amp gel-cell plus a 15 watt solar panel. The rig I used was an ICOM IC-703 at 5 watts. My Cushcraft R7 was eight feet off the ground and pretty stable. The weather was great, the temps were in the 70s (little overcast), and the beer (rootbeer) flowed like water. Looking forward to next year's contest and hopefully all bands will be booming!

QRP Afield 2010
Hello QRPers,
I was operating from the bridle path just North of Parsons Beach in Kennebunk, Maine. I used a converted golf bag carrier, a kind of fold-up cargo dolly to schlepp battery, K3, keyer paddles, headphones, table, chair, and Hustler 6BTV vertical to a spot surrounded by a salt marsh, away from power lines, traffic and houses. 43.346122 N -70.518880 W
It was a beautiful day and my girlfriend came by at 1 PM to bring me some sandwiches, a drink, and some company. She brought a folding chair and a book to read. It was a perfect day spent in the sun. I worked the boys in Portsmouth, NH for a SPC on 40, 20, 15, and 10. I could not get them to try 80 or 160 even though I was game. They were maybe 15 miles away. DX included VA6RF and YO6KNY.
